The Honorable D. Azemopoulos partecipated and addressed the Annual Dinner of the Philoptohos of the Greek Orthodox Church of St. Panteleimon in Markham. The major highlight of the event was the award bestowed to the President of the Hellenic Hope and great philanthropist Mr. John Dagonas for his impressive and life long charity activities. The Consul General praised Mr. Dagonas, underlining that ''he is a most bright light for the whole Greek Community, an angel of kindness who spares no efforts in the service of mankind''. His Eminence Bishop Nikitas from California addressed the 500 guests present at the event and expressed his full support for the completion of the Church of St. Panteleimon (Sunday of the Cross, March 7th, 2010).

A record turnout of more than 550 guests marked this year's most successful Gala of the Panmessinian Association “Papaflessas – Ipapanti” of Toronto . The Association bestowed to the Hon. Dimitris Azemopoulos, Consul General of Greece, a certificate of recognition for his contribution to the strengthening of the spirit of unity of the Hellenic Diaspora in Toronto as well as his commendable efforts to inspire the Greek Youth while defending the everlasting values of our Nation. In the certificate it is underlined that his unprecedented commitment,his high sense of integrity and his faith make the Consul General of Greece a bright beacon of hope for the Hellenism in Toronto as he sets a solid example for the generations to come.
A salient feature of the evening was the brave and most kind gesture of the President of the Association Mr. Kostas Kremidas who announced that after a ten year successful term as President of the Association he decided to resign and thus open up the way for the new generation to take over (March 6th, 2010).
An amazing ‘’surprise party’’ took place in “Myth” to honor the 1st year of the Hon. Consul General’s diplomatic mission in Toronto. The event was organized jointly by the Daughters of Penelope, the Hellenic Heritage Foundation, AHEPA-Toronto, the Hellenic Canadian Lawyers Association, the Hellenic Canadian Board of Trade. The event was also supported by the Panmessinian Association ‘’Ipapanti-Papaflessas’’, the Association of the Athenians and the Brotherhood of Pontion ‘’Panagia Soumela’’.
The organizers bestowed to the Hon. Consul General “a certificate of recognition and appreciation for his efforts, unwavering dedication, zeal and exceptional work in uniting the Hellenic Community of Toronto”.
The Government of Ontario sent the Hon. Mr. Azemopoulos a congratulations’ letter in which it is stated, among others, that Toronto is well served by Consul General’s unprecedented inroads and the many alliances, partnerships and relationships initiated and nurtured by him. His efforts resonate beyond the Greek Canadian community and beyond the Great Toronto Area.
The event was attended by more than 300 guests, mainly youth, and a great number of most distinguished leaders of the Greek and Cypriot Communities (March 4th, 2010).
The Honorable Consul General of Greece, Mr. Dimitris Azemopoulos, with Mr. George Tourlakis, University Professor and Undergraduate Program Director of the Department of Computer Science & Engineering at York University and Ms. Efstratia Karagrigoriou (Consular Officer responsible for University matters). The Honorable Dimitris Azemopoulos, Consul General of Greece, addressed the participants of the charity event organized by the Association of '' Agios Petros Kinourias'' together with the Management of the Flipper's House. He asked them to support the purchase of an adapted vehicle to be provided to a person suffering from multiple sclerosis. The amount collected within the record time of 1hour and 30 min. was 33.000 dollars.
The Hon. Consul General warmly thanked the donors for their unprecedented and quick response to his plea, underlining that by serving those in need we serve God and our Nation while at the same time we fill our hearts with energy, hope and joy (Sunday, February 28th, 2010).

The Honorable Dimitris Azemopoulos, Consul General of Greece, addressed the Hellenic Hope 6th Annual ''HAVE A HEART FUNDRAISING GALA''. The Hon. D. Azemopoulos expressed his most sincere support to the efforts of the Hellenic Hope to purchase a larger building that will accommodate the growing requirement of a daily program for the young people with special needs while at the same time provide overnight accommodation for them. The Hon. Consul General praised the hard work and dedication of the parents of all our Special Needs Persons. He underlined that together we must support each other to continue TO PROVIDE IN EVERY WAY FOR THOSE CHILDREN WHO CANNOT PROVIDE FOR THEMSELVES. Over 550 guests attended this year' s Gala which was a tremendous success. Generous donations marked this very successful event.
The Hon. Consul General announced that the prestigious Hellenic Heritage Foundation donated the amount of 50.000 dollars. He also praised the Association of the Athenians for deciding to postpone their annual gala to April 17th as a signal of utter respect towards the cause of the Hellenic Hope. Finally, he announced that the AHEPANS donated a computer to the Hellenic Hope.
The Hon. D. Azemopoulos urged everybody to assist in all possible ways the Hellenic Hope, for the major human tasks the Foundation is performing (Saturday, February 27th, 2010).

The purpose of the meeting was to finalize the details, logistics and aspects of the event of ‘’Greek Week’’ to take place from April 19-24th at the Lycée français de Toronto. The event will be under the auspices of the Consul Generals of Greece and France in Toronto, the Hons. D. Azemopoulos and J. Cauchard respectively. It aims at strengthening even more the excellent and multi-dimensional cooperation between the two Consulates, to the benefit of the Youth. (Toronto, February 26th 2010).

The Honorable Dimitris Azemopoulos, Consul General of Greece, addressed the Annual Welcome Dinner and Annual General Meeting of the Hellenic Canadian Board of Trade (HCBT), which were, successfully, held on Thursday, February 25th, 2010 at the King Edward Hotel. With talk of the Greek economy very prevalent and with the upcoming Canadian Trade Mission to Greece in May, the HCBT put together a panel to discuss these hot topics. The panel consisted of Mr. Christos Gribas, Trade Commissioner with the Consulate General of Greece in Toronto, Mr. Peter Souchleris businessman, and Mr. Bill Macheras A/Deputy Director of the Trade Commissioners Service (Foreign Affairs and International Trade Canada). Business achievement awards were bestowed to two Hellenic-Canadian businesses. This year's Lifetime Achievement Award recipients were Mr. Tom and Mrs. Zabeta Dimakopoulos of Ellas Banquet Hall, while the Entrepreneurship Award recipient was Mr. Tony Lourakis of Complete Innovations Inc (Toronto, February 25th, 2010).

To be noted that the Association of the Athenians most kindly postponed their Gala due initially to take place on February 27th in order to assist the Hellenic Hope to better organise its own Gala programmed for that same date. The purpose of the introductory meeting was to discuss the notion of establishing an annual soccer tournament in Toronto. The participating soccer teams would comprise of soccer teams with players of various ages representing organizations from local, regional or international communities. The objective or goal of this project is to promote and/or enhance Greek heritage, culture, goodwill, friendship and business relations within the Greek community.

Eleni Karageorgiou, donated 31 computers to the Greek Schools of the Hellenic Diaspora in Toronto.
The Hon. Ministers Margarett Best and Sophia Angelonitis attended the whole event and were key note speakers. The event was honored also by the participation of His Grace Bishop Hristoforos representing His Eminence the Archbishop Sotirios, the Director of the Theological Academy Father Ignatios, Ms. V. Rizou representing the President of the Greek Community, leaders of the Greek and Cypriot Associations and Federations, leaders of various institutions and associations including the prestigious Hellenic Home and the Hellenic Hope Foundations, the Hellenic Canadian Board of Trade and the Hellenic Canadian Lawyers Association, Professors of Universities, University students excelling in their studies, distinguished journalists of the Diaspora and above all the teachers of the young Hellenes in Toronto. The latter ones were highly commended by all the speakers for their immense efforts to keep the flame of Hellenism alive in Canada, in spite of the very difficult conditions of today.
Several awards were bestowed to Greek-Canadians as well as Cypriot-Canadians for their remarkable contribution in the society. In particular, the Hon. Sophia Angelonitis was awarded with a written and well deserved acknowledgment co-signed by the Consul General of Greece the Hon. Dimitris Azemopoulos and the President of the AHEPA - Toronto the Hon. Andreas Stavropoulos for her outstanding contribution in preserving the everlasting principles and undying values of Hellenism in Canada as well as for her high integrity in politics. A special award was also given to the Hon. M. Best for her support towards the Greek Community. The Hon. Consul General congratulated once more the Ontario Government for bringing the Pan American Games of 2015 to Toronto. He stressed the excellent level of co-operation with the Hon. Premier Dalton McGuinty.
The Hon. Dimitris Azemopoulos, while addressing his 150 distinguished guests, stressed the current imperative need to build as many bridges as possible between all the living forces of Hellenism in Toronto, in a spirit of unity and solidarity and with a clear vision of the future. This is the only possible way to move safely ahead and successfully face the challenges of tomorrow.
The Honorable Consul General concluded by warmly and most sincerely thanking the AHEPA Family for their amazing donation of 31 computers to the Greek Community. He stressed that the American Hellenic Educational Progressive Association (AHEPA) is the largest and oldest Northern American-based, Greek heritage grassroots membership organization with 30.000 active members today. Its scope is international an most commendable with chapters in the United States, Canada, Greece, and Cyprus, Australia and New Zealand. Today, AHEPA promotes to the maximum the ideals of ancient Greece, which includes philanthropy, education, civic responsibility, and family and individual excellence to the community (Toronto, January 28th 2010).

The Consul General, who is a member of the Association of the Athenians due to his origin, praised the members of the General Assembly for their decision that night to postpone their annual dance, initially scheduled to take place on February 27th, in order to help HELLENIC HOPE maximize the number of guests attending its own Gala due to take place also on February 27th. The annual Dance of the Athenians, which this year will include a cultural dimension and an award ceremony, apart from that of entertainment, will take place at a later stage, under the auspices of the Consul General. The BROTHERHOOD PONTION TORONTO "PANAGIA SOUMELA unanimously conferred to Hon. Dimitris Azemopoulos the title of the Honorary President of their historic Association, underlining that this is the first time that such a distinction is awarded to any Greek diplomat serving in Toronto.

The service was celebrated by His Eminence the Greek Orthodox Archbishop of Canada Sotirios.
