The Hon. D. Azemopoulos attended the spectacular 14th Fundraising Gala '' A NIGHT IN PLAKA'', organised by the Hellenic Heritage Foundation. The event was massively attended and was once more an amazing success.
The Hellenic Heritage Foundation (HHF) is a charitable, non-profit fundraising organization focused on the preservation, advancement and integration of Hellenism in Canadian society. The HHF funds organizations with a primary focus on universities and other centres of learning, elder care facilities and arts and cultural centres.
This year’s gala A Night in Plaka featuring Greek singer Konstantina took place on Friday June 4, 2010 at the Paramount Conference & Event Venue in support of two very important initiatives – the Hellenic Hope Center and Hellenic Heritage Foundation Scholarships. The whole event was perfectly organised by the generous and most successful businessan Mr. Peter Eliopoulos, member of the Board of the HHF and illustrious member of our Diaspora.

• Successfully raised close to $5 million
• Donated over $2 million to create the first permanent Chair in Hellenic Studies at York University in Toronto which was established in 2002.

The Hon. Consul General of Greece joined by Mr. Michael Wighton at the Theater Cipher. The Hon. D. Azemopoulos attended ''AGAMEMNON'' by Aeschylus, directed by Michael Wighton. At the end of the performance the Hon. Consul General of Greece warmly congratulated Mr. M. Wighton and the excellent actors for an amazing performance. To be noted that THEATRE CIPHER's debut production is intensely visual and poetically rich while the whole staging of the play uses a joint mastery of body and text to reveal the true power of ancient Greek theater.
In particular, marking the debut of a determined new voice within Toronto theatre, Theatre Cipher’s Agamemnon (in translation by Ted Hughes) stands out as proof of the power and relevance a great text can hold when approached with the necessary time and dedication. Created over the course of twelve months of ongoing rehearsal, this highly visual and psychologically-charged production runs from May 22 to June 5 at the church hall of Christ the Saviour Cathedral located at 823 Manning Ave. Led by director Michael Wighton, Theatre Cipher is an ensemble of actors and directors committed to restoring to the theatre both the rigour and untamed fantasy which it deserves. Acknowledging the physical, vocal, and psychological mastery which a great poetic text demands, Agamemnon comes as the result of a process which sets artistic vision and dramatic revelation as its foremost concerns. As the first of three tragedies in Aeschylus’ renowned Oresteia, Agamemnon tells the tale of what happens to a nation after years spent at war. Returning triumphant from his victory at Troy, the great leader Agamemnon discovers his kingdom fallen into disrepair and consumed by a web of personal crusaders, each of them ravenous for their own take on justice. As the disease which he set off in his people upon sailing for Troy -- an unquestioning belief in one’s moral right – overtakes the palace square, we see what becomes of a society where each and every member is ready to fight for what they deem right. (Toronto, 30 May, 2010).
