The Honorable Consul General of Greece Mr. Dimitris Azemopoulos participated at the distribution of gifts to kids in need. The unforgettable event was organised by the Greek Canadian brothers Jeff and George Kioussis at their banquet Hall ''Qssis Place''. For two entire days, preceding Christmas Night, more than 4000 kids and homeless people will be receiving food, care and gifts at Qssis Place to honor the Xmas spirit. Mr. D. Azemopoulos commended the two brothers for their amazing gesture. He stressed that they show to our community the best example of a true Christian love to our suffering unknown neighbor. He concluded by saying that in his long diplomatic career, he never had such an inspiring experience like the one lived at ''Qssis Place'' that day. At the Church of the Redeemer the Honorable Consul General of Greece, Mr. Dimitris Azemopoulos was the Master of Ceremony, hosting, in cooperation with the EU Presidency, the closing reception of the European Union Film Festival. The reception was attended by all the Consuls and Consul Generals of the EU in Toronto. There was a massive response of guests, sponsors and other dignitaries. Prior to the reception, the screening of the Greek entry to the Festival, ‘’EL GRECO’’, managed to attract an unprecedented and record number of above 700 guests at the CINEPLEX ODEON VARSITY on Bloor str. , outnumbering thus by far all the other screenings of the participant EU countries. A distinct feature of the screening was an exceptional presence of Greek Youth from Toronto.
Mr. D. Azemopoulos, in addressing the audience of the cinema and that of the reception stressed that Greece stands proud of its historical and cultural heritage. We, modern Greeks, share a Heritage that goes deep down in the millennia of the History of Mankind and we ensure that it will be respected by the rest of the Nations of the EU family in a spirit of solidarity and acknowledgment of our unity. The purpose of the meeting was to celebrate and honor the 100 years of the Greek Community and to commit to the next 100 years. The Honorable Consul General of Greece, Mr. Dimitris Azemopoulos, participated actively at the "15th Annual Taste of the Danforth Festival " (7-9 August 2009). Attendance numbers reached as high as almost two million people over the two and a half day event. The event was honored by the presence and participation of two astonishing politicians: The Honorable Jack Layton, PC, MP leader of Canada's New Democratic Party, and The Honorable Margarett Best, Minister of Health Promotion, Recreation and Sports. Throughout the two and a half day event mother nature brought forth to the Taste of the Danforth Festival, sunshine, rain, and wind. However the masses were not discouraged and attended the Taste of the Danforth Festival that celebrates the multicultural diversity of Toronto, with a total focus on Hellenic culture.

The Honorable Consul General of Greece, Mr. Dimitris Azemopoulos, participated at the launching event of the "Taste of the Danforth" (6th of August at the premises of the ''Local''). The event saw many distinguished guests and significant sponsors of the "Taste of the Danforth". It was honored by the active participation of the President of the Greek Community Mr. Kostas Menegakis. Special tribute was paid to the main sponsor of the 'Taste of the Danforth'' Mr. Miltiadis Antypas, President of the ''Pilaros Company'' and the tireless organisers of the ''Taste of the Danforth'' (7-9 August 2009). Taste of the Danforth is a yearly festival held in Toronto, Ontario, Canada, in the Greektown area along Danforth Avenue for a period of three days in August. Started in 1994, it celebrates Greek food and culture. Past attendance numbers have reached as high as one million people over the two and a half day event. Approximately 2.5 kilometres of the Danforth is closed from Broadview Avenue to past Pape Avenue. Greektown Taste of the Danforth is one of Toronto's signature events, showcasing the best of Hellenic food, culture, and music our multicultural city has to offer - from souvlaki to mezes, authentic Greek music to interactive children's games!
The Honorable Consul General of Greece, Mr. Dimitris Azemopoulos, at Vesper Services on the occasion of Church’s celebration of the Feast Day of the Holy Transfiguration of the Redeemer, on Wednesday, August 5th 2009. The vesper was celebrated by His Eminence of Archbishop Sotirios and thirty (30) Greek Orthodox priests from all over Toronto. The vesper was attended by hundreds of Greek Orthodox faithful, including a considerable number of youths.

Reception of the Consul General of Greece the Honorable Dimitris Azemopoulos, celebrating the 100 year presence of the Greek Community in Toronto (June 23rd 2009 at the Four Seasons Hotel) with keynote speakers the Honorable President of the Greek Community in Toronto Mr. Costas Menegakis and the Honorable Sophia Aggelonitis MPP. The guest of honor was the Honorable Margarett Best, Minister of Health Promotion Responsible for Sport and Recreation.
Other active participants consisted of the Honorable Senator A. C. Cools, the Honorable Federal Deputy J. Cannis, the President of the Hellenic Canadian National Congress Mr. Hristos Geronikolos, and the Honorable Lorenzo Berardinetti MPP. Prominent position was given to Ms. Martha Henty President of the Cypriot Community in Ontario and the President of PSEKA-Canada Mr. Dinos Sophocleous.
The event was also honored by hundreds of distinguished guests counting, among others, leaders of the Hellenic Associations, numerous General Consuls, Fathers of Churches, University professors and students, members of the Hellenic Canadian Lawyers’ Association and the Hellenic Canadian Board of Trade, artists, journalists and athletes.
During the event the Greek Community expressed its strongest support for the Canadian bid of hosting the Panamerican Games in Toronto 2015. That support comes as a spontaneous and natural recognition of all that this astonishing City has provided to the Greek Community of Toronto/Ontario for the last 100 years.
